The Apprenticeship at AGDT
How do you become a dog trainer?
There are as many paths to a career as a dog trainer as there are professional dog trainers. Most trainers followed a complicated, circuitous path filled with dead ends and recalibrations. Some tried to learn through an online program, but such programs are very expensive and they do not provide much (if any) experience with dogs. Others chose to follow their own path, but found themselves wasting years tracking down good information and mentors.
There is a better way! The AGDT apprenticeship fosters a novice trainer’s intellectual and practical skills. It is a comprehensive, intensive period of study that opens the door to a career filled with fun, engaging, and challenging opportunities. Apply! Join us!

At AGDT, we offer two apprenticeships.
The Dog Training Foundations apprenticeship is open to beginners and those with a moderate level of experience who seek to learn the craft of dog training more completely.
The Career Track is by invitation only. Participants in the career track apprenticeship are chosen from The Dog Training Foundations apprenticeship or from specially vetted applicants. To date, every graduate of the career track apprenticeship has gone on to have a successful career as a certified full-time dog trainer.
